Excited, Pia Cayetano sent a Twitter message on Monday afternoon that she was about to bike to her precinct in Bagumbayan, Taguig to cast her vote. However, her next tweet was one of frustration.

“I was not able to vote! Supporters of our opponents in Taguig started hurling invectives at my brothers and throwing punches at them,” her tweet read.

Cayetano said her brothers Ren and Lino were waiting patiently in line when Dante Tinga’s followers started “harassing” them.

Parts of Metro Manila experience three-hour brownouts

Daily brownouts lasting up to three hours in some parts of Metro Manila may be experienced in the next five days, energy officials said Monday.

Expected to take place anytime between 10 AM to 10 PM, power outages were caused by problems with two major power plants, Dina Lomotan, a spokesperson for Meralco, said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Among the affected areas include Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Parañaque, Quezon City, Valenzuela, Muntinlupa, Pasig, Pateros and Taguig, a separate Balitanghali report on Monday said.

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) advised Meralco of problems at the Masinloc and Sual power plants only on Sunday night, Lomotan added.

The NGCP runs the country’s power grid, transmitting electricity from power plants to utilities such as Meralco.

690 centenarians in Taguig voters’ list

MANILA, Philippines — Her name reportedly appeared on the latest voters’ list in Taguig City: Rosalyn Ricafort Galvez, 127 years old.

Galvez was not alone. At least 690 more voters aged 100 years and older have been spotted in city records being prepared for the country’s first automated elections next year, according to a former lawmaker.

And of these centenarians, 621 share the same birthday: Jan. 1, 1901, Etta Rosales disclosed Wednesday.

“Cheating is being done now,” the former Akbayan party-list representative said as she warned that more “polluted lists” of voters could go unchecked despite the shift from manual to computerized elections.

Gawad Kalinga community joins IT age

A Gawad Kalinga community in Taguig has now been integrated into the information technology age.

Barangay Pinagsama – Phase 2 in Taguig is the very first site to benefit from a partnership with PLDT myDSL and SMART in creating the GK I.T. Center.

It is the first one of its kind in all GK sites in the country.

Referred to simply as iGK, the project allows not just GK residents of the barangay but also other members of the community to use the computers on a first come first served basis – for as low as P10 per hour.

It is the result of PLDT and SMART’s continuing support of GK’s efforts to sustain and develop their community while teaching the residents to be more productive via enhancement of their business and computer skills.

Airport city : Taguig patterns Laguna lakeshore dev’t to Dubai

The city of Taguig is planning a massive P3 billion reclamation project along Laguna Lake to put up a third airport patterned after Jebel Ali Airport City in Dubai.

Mayor Sigfrido Tinga said that Taguig has entered into joint venture with the Laguna Lake Development Authority to reclaim 3,000 hectares along the shorelines of the 90,000 hectare Laguna de Bay.

The center of the development is an airport, the third to be developed after Manila and Clark.

Armando O. Samia, executive vice president of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) which is the financial advisor of the development said a core area of 250 to 300 hectares or about the size of Makati central business district representing the first phase of the mega project has been offered yesterday in an investors’ briefing to the country’s property giants namely the SM Development Corp., Robinsons Land Corp., Filinvest Land Inc., Eaton Properties, Megaworld Corp., R-II Builders, Landco, Federal Land, Greenfield Development, Sta.
