Hundreds remember Cory in Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. Hundreds came to remember, and to honor former President Corazon Aquino at the historic St. Matthews Cathedral.

Her portrait welcomed churchgoers.

Fil-Ams joined friends and family of Mrs. Aquino who attended the memorial mass. Three cousins of her husband, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., live in the area.

The mass was officiated by Msgr. Ronald Jameson and Filipino priest Jose Opalda.

It was the second time mass was being celebrated for a Philippine president in St. Matthews, the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington DC.

‘Let’s move on’ – brother of ‘Ninoy’

God will have the last word on whether justice was served the late former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., his younger brother and former Rep. Agapito “Butz” Aquino of Makati City said Thursday.

For now, according to allies of the administration, it all boils down to President Gloria Arroyo having the law on her side when she decided on March 2 to pardon the last 10 remaining soldiers convicted of the assassination of Ninoy on August 21, 1983.

EDITORIAL - An unsolved crime

Pardon is granted to a convict who has admitted his crime, shown remorse and appears to be fully rehabilitated and ready to become a responsible citizen. In the case of the soldiers convicted of assassinating Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and then finishing off Rolando Galman, all continue to maintain their innocence and pointing to Galman as Aquino’s assassin — the same story given to the nation by the Marcos dictatorship. In the absence of an admission of guilt, there is also no remorse.

The slain senator’s heirs, led by former President Corazon Aquino, believe two crimes were committed on Sept. 21, 1983: the murders of two men, and the cover-up that followed. Both crimes remain unsolved, with the mastermind of the first felony still unidentified, and the second one a continuing offense, according to the family.[Read full article...]
