Jollibee posts profit growth in 2009, eyes better performance

Listed fast-food giant Jollibee Foods Corp. expects more robust growth this year after net earnings grew by almost a quarter to P813 million in the last quarter of 2009 due to lower raw material costs, more efficient marketing spending and lower income taxes.

The company’s earnings for the full year also increased by 14.6 percent from a year earlier as system-wide sales from company-owned and franchised stores went up by almost a tenth, Jollibee said in a statement on Thursday.

“We look forward to a more robust growth in 2010 particularly in the Philippines and China, as we now have better products, price points, store quality, and marketing campaigns driven by even stronger organizations,” Jollibee Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tony Tan Caktiong said.

MANILA, Philippines - Guilt-free chow-downs coming soon?

Standards are currently being drafted for what is expected to be a voluntary program, said Frances Prescilla Cuevas, national program manager of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control’s Degenerative Disease Office.

“The program is to accelerate our promotion of healthy lifestyles. We are working with the National Nutrition Council and other private partners to create standards for food products like hamburgers,” Ms. Cuevas said.

The program entails adhering to nutritional standards set by the DoH. Each fastfood chain is encouraged to voluntarily apply and will be urged to reformulate products to suit the certification.

Jollibee bags Asia-Pac logistics award

Jollibee Foods Corp. bested some of Asia-Pacific’s biggest multinationals when it received the FMCG and F&B Supply Chain Excellence Award at the SCM Logistics Excellence Awards Gala Event.

The annual gala gathers the region’s supply chain experts in honor of the best practices in their field.

“We never see the Philippines get recognized in this kind of criteria. This time, we did. JFC is very proud because this is also in recognition of Filipinos’ capability to excel in this field,” JFC vice president for Corporate Supply Chain William Lorenzana Jr. said.
