NBI to probe hacking into gov’t websites

MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched an investigation into the hacking of government websites as agency investigators suspect a single perpetrator is responsible for the vandalism.

NBI Anti-Fraud and Computer Crimes Division head agent Palmer Mallari said the bureau would investigate the hacking into the websites of the Department of Health, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), National Disaster Coordinating Council and Department of Social Welfare and Development.

“The same hacker could have defaced the websites although there is a possibility insiders at the agencies committed the vandalism,” Mallari said, adding that the bureau had the means to unmask the perpetrators.

Innovation key to a competitive exit post-crisis: HP

“There are firms who balance cost cutting with investment,” dela Rosa said, dispelling misconceptions that a crisis is a time for immense and drastic budget cuts. “They are focused on balancing cost reductions with laying the groundwork to exit the crisis more competitive.”

CICT creates unit to reform e-gov’t fund

MANILA, Philippines–The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) has formed a unit meant to reform disbursement of funds for government information and communications technology projects.

This unit will use e-government fund guidelines drafted by Bearing Point, a foreign management and consulting firm managing the E3 project.

E3 is a five-year, $9.92 million project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) that targets social services projects using information technology.
