Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion) and the number one pound-for-pound best boxer in the world is facing another challenge to the almost bygone, retire-comeback-retire again-comeback again Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Michael Koncz said in a previous interview that there is no truth on the said fight and no one in Mayweather’s camp reached him or Bob Arum about it. “How can he set a date, how can he set the venue without consulting your opponent?” Koncz told the veteran sports writer Ronnie Nathanielsz in a boxing magazine.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s adviser announced that his client is “looking forward to make the biggest fight possible”, “Everybody knows what that fight is, the little fella (referring to Manny Pacquiao)”.

According to Knocz, Mayweather’s just trying  to get attention because Pacquiao-Marquez fight is nearing.  “We have been working on endorsements which are not Mickey Mouse $100,000 but multi-million dollar deals” Koncz further added.

It is the obvious that Mayweather is acting too childish because all attention is all set to Manny Pacquiao. His gibberish style won’t affect anything at all except he rings the bell to fight Pacquiao. This news about Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has been long anticipated, however fans grew tired of waiting for the childish Mayweather’s camp has not decide whether if they are brave enough to fight or not.

Manny Pacquiao has 58 fights, 38 out of 53 Wins was win by knockout, 3 losses, and 2 draws. In addition to his long list of winnings or belts are Light Middleweight, Welterweight, Light Welterweight, Lightweight, Super Featherweight, Featherweight, Fly weight.

Aside from being a professional boxer, Manny is also a government official in the Province of Saranggani in which he was elected as Congressman in May 2010. He is also a singer, host, and an actor in the Philippines.

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao recently bought a brang new Ferrari 458 Italia. The purchase came three weeks before his fight with Mexican boxer Juan Miguel Marrquez.

The price of the car, which is in color gray, is believed to be worth at least US$225,000 and is now parked at the Filipino champion’s apartment unit at the Palazzo in downtown Los Angeles according to Ed de la Vega.

Just a couple of days ago, the 8-time world champion was checking on a Mercedes Gullwing, which was being sold to him for $210,000. However, it seemed that he chose the 4,499cc V8 Ferrari.

Saranggani Representative Pacquiao is known for having a wide array of expensive cars. Among the high-end cars he uses while moving around Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Philippines include a Porsche, Lincoln Navigator, Escalade, Mercedez Benz and other SUVs which he and his escorts use for official government functions.

Philippine Football team, Azkals, faces a tougher job after 3-0 loss against Kuwait

Philippines vs. Kuwait

Philippines vs. Kuwait

The Philippine Azkals had lost to Kuwait Al-Azraq with the final score at 3-0. The Azkals were not able to depend well. The game was affected by the absence of the two defenders, Borromeo and Shrock. Additionally, the heat getting at least 44 degree centigrade even if they played at night affected the performance of the Azkals.

The Philippine Azkals were obviously dissatisfied after their 3-0 loss against Kuwait in the 1st leg of their 2nd round World Cup qualifier, and they regret their missed goal opportunities against the tough Kuwaiti team. Their fans were even more disappointed since they expected a lot from the team. However, Filipinos are still hoping that the next game that will be scheduled at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila will have positive result. The team needs to score four goals in order to qualify for the next round. If ever the Azkals can score only 3 goals another extension will be made to determine the winner.

We actually hit the bar several times,” said team manager Dan Palami.

“It’s a very sad story actually, we had 3 very good chances in the 1st half,” said Azkals coach Michael Weiss.

Phil Younghusband nearly scored for the Philippines in the 1st half of the game, but was denied by the Kuwaiti goal keeper.

“We came here with a goal, and we thought we had it,” said defender Jason Sabio. “But we had a couple of unlucky breaks, and we found ourselves down 3-0.”

“In the 2nd half, it was one wave after another, and unfortunately, (they scored) a late goal,” Coach Weiss said.

Weiss said that if the Azkals had managed to avoid the late goal by the Kuwaitis, a 2-0 final score would have been “a fantastic result.”

Highlights of the game: Azkals vs. Kuwait

“During the first half of the game the Azkals have shown a heart of a tough team to beat. Their determination and good defense was enough to contain the more talented Kuwaitis to only one goal. The Kuwaiti’s have scored from a counter-attacked. Yousef Nasser had scored for Kuwait during the 18th minute through a header.

Kuwait started it strong at the 2nd half but Philippine Azkals defenders tackle it very well. The score was still 1-0. De Jong gets booked for a foul from behind there are no complains from the players, the Kuwaiti had just made a dramatic reaction.”

Highlight of the 1st half of the game

“At around 64th minute Angel Guirado had a chance and breaks through, takes a shot against the crowd just inside the box but is wide feft. After his attempt he went down and was taken out by stretcher there is something wrong with his right leg possibly a cramps.

The Kuwaitis had more possession compared to the Azkals and their passing had been way up high compared to the Philippine Azkals. At around 68th minute a controversial goal was scored. From a corner, headed by a Kuwaiti and blocked by Neil, the ball drops to the ground in front of the goal chipped in from a scrambled. Goal for Kuwait scores 2-0.”

Highlight of the 2nd half of the game

“At around 85th minute player #11 from Kuwait takes time to set up and shot just outside the box and slips passed Neil at the bottom left corner. Weak defense was the reason why the ball had just passed against four Azkals defenders. Kuwait scored another goal at 3-0.

Azkals won with 4-0 score against Sri Lanka

Truly, the Philippines Football team, Azkals, did not fail the expectation of Filipinos as they won the 4-0 match against Sri Lanka last Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Rizal Memorial Park.

Azkals wrote a new historic event by becoming the first Philippine Football team to make it on the second round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Million of their Filipino fans are hoping that they can continue to make it on FIFA World Cup.

Azkals’ supporters will not consider the weather for not to watch their team to play. Even the game had started start 3:30 pm; people were starting to fill the Rizal Stadium in Manila by 11:00 am. According to Azakals’ media officer, Rick Olivares, 12,870 tickets were sold.

It was a similar sight when the team played in Panaad Stadium in Bacolod last February and also won on that game against Mongolians.

Thunder or rain has not become interruption for the people to watch the game. Nobody moves even the strong rains poured from the kick-off until 20 minutes of the game.

The team was overwhelmed with the support of the Filipinos. Coach Weiss called it “special kind of love that is sometime moving.”

Azkals salvaged 1-1 draw against Sri Lanka

Philippine National Football Team

Azkals were said to be the strongest Philippine football team. However, it is dismay when the team did not showed it last night as they play against Sri Lanka in the Fifa World Cup Asian Qualifiers in Colombo.

The azkals feel behind due to unfamiliarity of Sugathadasa Stadium’s pitch.

“Overall, we’re happy with the 1-1 result. At least we’re playing on Sunday without a deficit,” -Mariano Araneta, President of Philippine Football Federation

Positively, it is more favorably to have 1-1 scoreline than 0-1 when azkals play again at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Sunday. A scoreless draw will be enough to bring in the Azkals a berth in the second round against seeded Kuwait by virtue of winning on the away goal.

“With this, Sri Lanka will no longer play defensive (in the Manila game), they will surely go for goals and this will open up the game and I’m sure the Azkals will benefit from this, having the superior skills overall,” Araneta said.

“We’ll go for a win to avoid complications,” the PFF head said.

The Azkals, having hard time adjusting to the hard field, that made them to play slowly in the first half, aiming for a goal on the 43rd when Chathura Guranarathna wretched a 30-yard shot past the Philippines wall off a free kick.

“The team was quite sluggish in the first half, I would say they only showed 60 percent of their power. But they picked up in the second half and played 80 percent of their potential,

“They haven’t adjusted fully to the field, which you can see is really bad. They couldn’t really play well on that pitch. This was evident when Chieffy was going on a one and one and couldn’t control the ball because of the different bounce presented by the field,” Araneta added.

Yes you read it right!

In the recently held Philippine Open Pool Championship, Antonio Lining has become the World’s No. 1 Pool player.

WPBO, World Pool-Billiard Association President Mr. Ian Anderson announced that Antonio “Nikoy” Lining has overtaken Django Bustamante’s rank no. 1 professional billiard player in the world after making it to the 2nd Place of the Philippine Open Pool Championship earlier this month, held at SM Megamall.

Antonio Lining today's No. 1 World Pool Player

Antonio Lining

Nikoy, is a one of the few left-handed Asian pool players, but it seems that it is his magical left hand that brought him at the peak of pool player ranking today.

Some of his humble beginning is when he finished 2nd place next to Bustamante in the Motolite International Nine-Ball Tournament last 2000, where he also bested Efren “Bata” Reyes at the quarter-finals. And his first Gold Medal together with Bustamante at Nine-ball doubles event at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.

On the other note, ‘RoboCop” Dennis Orcullo is also climbing up in the world ranking as he will soon be on the 2nd spot after Lining while Bustamante’s position continues to drop in the world rankings.

A Lifetime Benefit Bill for retired Filipino Athletes

From via

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has filed a bill; the Senate Bill 2741 that seeks to provide professional Filipino athletes with retirement, health care and death benefits provided that they have won prestigious titles for the Philippines.

It seeks to provide insurance coverage to athletes covered by the National Health Insurance Program of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) immediately upon winning any international professional sports competitions.

Filipino athletes who were former champions in their respective fields and who have reached the age of 50 will also receive a lifetime monthly pension of at least P15,000 for those who participated in individual events.

Those who participated and won in team sports will receive a lifetime monthly pension of P10,000.

If needed, hospitalization not covered by PhilHealth will be shouldered by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

These retired athletes shall also be entitled to a lump sum death benefit of P30,000 to cover for funeral expenses.

This is good news to many athletes, but the bill is still subject for approval by President Benigno Aquino III upon the joint recommendation of the Budget Secretary and the chairman of the Games and Amusement Board.

In November 2010, House Representatives also filed a similar proposal to grant champion Filipino athletes a monthly pension.

This consolidated version was through the efforts of Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) party-list Rep. Mark Aeron Sambar, South Cotabato Rep. Pedro Acharon Jr., and Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar.

Athletes including Lydia de Vega, Elma Muros-Posadas, bowling hall-of-famer Paeng Nepumuceno and billiards world champion Efren “Bata” Reyes are expected to benefit from the bill once it is passed.

Earlier this year, boxing hero and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao had also raised the amendment of the Republic Act 9064 known as the Sports Incentives Law to help retired athletes in the country.

Pacquiao’s primary objective in the amendment of RA 9064 is to increase the incentives and widen the scope of the benefits to amateur athletes, especially amateur boxers.

He specifically cited Olympic boxers Leopoldo Serrantes and Anthony Villanueva who are suffering from sickness but are not getting enough support from the government.
