Fire in Grand Central mall in Caloocan put out, finally

The Grand Central mall in Caloocan City has reached Task Force Delta alarm status, Starting at the interior and spreading to the parking are at the back of the complex, 7p.m Saturday night, a fire blaze around 10:45 p.m on Friday continued to rage at Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall in Caloocan City.

According to Mar Flordeliza, an investigator of the interagency task force of the Department of the Interior and Local Government  the flames were not visible from outside the mall, the smoke and the heat prevented firefighters from taking out at least 50 LPG tanks which were earlier stacked at the mall’s parking area.

“If the fire reaches the tanks, we may have a series of explosions,” Flordeliza added.

Firefighters said the fire at the Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall started from the Rusty Lopez stall on the ground floor.  According to volunteer firefighters, no one was reported injured in the fire.

Firefighters needed to wear oxygen masks to get to the area. Caloocan City fire marshal Superintendent Oscar de Asis said

The blaze reached Task Force Delta at 5: 40 a.m. Saturday before it was declared under control at 11:59 p.m. later that day.

Sonsona KOs Fulgencio

The comeback trail of former world superflyweight champion Marvin Sonsona continues after a crushing left uppercut to Carlos “El Flaco” Fulgencio’s jaw in the fifth round to finish the Dominican Republic fighter in a bout that announced his return to the bigtime boxing at the Hoops Dome here Saturday night.

Sonsona unleashed that same old, reliable weapon that has helped him improve his record to 16-1-1 with 13 knockouts, sending his visiting foe to the floor, After pounding Fulgencio’s body in the early rounds with hard shots and hardly connecting with a clean shot to the head.

The fight ended at 1:41 mark of the fifth after referee Tony Pesons dicided that Fulgencio was no longer fit to continue.

The 21-year-old Sonsona, lost his world superflyweight belt after a knockout loss to Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., in 2010.

“I’m still trying to get back my timing. I’m still a bit slow, but I feel like I will be stronger and probably faster come my next fight,” said Sonsona.

The 21-year-old Sonsona will relocate to Oxnard, Californfia to train with Pablo Sarmiento, in preparation for his next fight at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City against an opponent to be named later.

Sonsona also moving up to featherweight limit of 126 pounds in his next fight, sonsona felt that he cannot make 122 pound limit any longer, Moving up to featherweight will also allow Sonsona to avoid Filipino pound for pound standout Nonito Donaire who also holds the super bantamweight title.

Two robbers killed in Manila

Two suspected robbers who victimized a De La Salle-College of St. Benilde student in the Manila was shot and killed by the police Wednesday evening. The student immediately called the help of the school’s security guard, who alerted the police regarding the incedent.

The suspect took off with the victim’s bag along Talf Avenue around 8 p.m, Superintendent Ernesto Tendero Jr. chief of Manila Police District – Station 2 said.

“Tinutukan siya ng baril tapos ini-snatch yung bag. Makikita niyo ang estudyante, parang may galos ditto sa braso at parang nabalian pa kasi kinaladad daw siya,” Tendero added.

According to the policemen the robbers were spotted in a tricycle at the corner of Singalong and Katipunan Tikong Streets, around 10pm, resulting to an exchange of fire. The suspects were eventually killed by the police in the incident.

The police recovered the victim’s bag and 2 pistols used by the suspect in the shoot out.

Palace failed to stop transport groups

The Philippine government failed to stop transport groups from conducting a nationwide strike Thursday due successive petroleum price increases. This event forced the Department of Education to defer to local governments the decision to suspend classes in their respective localities on Thursday.

Edwin Lacierda said at a briefing in Malacañang “Mukhang hindi po magpapapigil… ang mga transport groups.  And so, in the alternative, we are preparing for the contingencies,” after Chairman of the Metro Manila Developer Authoriry (MMDA) Francis Tolentino Failed to convince the transport groups to cancel their strike.

George San Mateo Piston president said that transport groups wants oil companies to roll back diesel by 9pesos per liter and 10pesos in gasoline. Also the transport groups wants to scrap the 12-percent e-Vat on petroleum products to help stabilize the petroleum product prices.

Aside from Metro Manila the protest actions will also be held in the following cities in Thursday.

Pinoy rock icon dies at 43

Pinoy funk and rock icon Karl Roy (43) passed away 1:00 am Tuesday morning, due to cardiac arrest.

Karl was the vocalist of three well-known Pinoy rock bands, P.O.T., Kapatid, and Advent Call.

“I will always remember Karl when Advent Call was the hardest-working band back in the day, sometimes playing seven fiery sets a night. Rest in peace, Karl,” said Raimund Marasigan, former Eraserheads drummer and currently Sandwich frontman

Kathryn, karl’s sister announced his death on Facebook.

According to Kathryn’s post, “It is with deepest sadness that I share the news of Karl’s passing. He was called Home today at 1:01 a.m. Manila time (Tuesday, March 13th), surrounded by those who loved him most – mommy, Keith, Kevin, Krys, his daughter Arianna, and our cousin Jack (Roy-Duavit),”

“Please continue to pray for Karl. He brought so much joy to others but, unfortunately, did not have enough of it in this life. He’s in a better place now, with Lolo Pepe, Lola Conching and Daddy.” She added

Reporter Shot in Pasig

Around 10: pm Sunday night a reporter from The Daily Tribune Fernan Jose Angeles was beaten and then shot along Evangelista Street in Barangay Pinagbuhatan Pasig City. Angels sustained six gunshot wounds.

Angeles’ wife Gemma said her husband went out of their house at Cattleya compound in Evangelista St. in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig at about 10:15 p.m. on Sunday to buy prepaid cellphone load.

Minutes later, Gemma said she heard gunshots and an hour later a village watchman arrived at their residence and informed her that her husband had been shot.

Angeles’ wife suspected that a drug syndicate was behind the crime.   According to Gemma before her husband entered the operating room was able to identify his assailant.

“Kinonfirm sa akin ng asawa ko, kasi he was conscious the whole night, until ipasok siya sa operating room. Kita niya kung sino yung sinasabi niyang tao, kilala niya yung tao na yun eh,” she said

Gemma said she is being carefull in giving details and coordinating with some members of the Pasig Police, whom she think might be connected with the mastermind of the shooting.

Angeles is now at the intensive care unit in Pasig City General Hospital, his wife wants to call the attention to those who are willing to donate blood for her husband, who has a B+ bloodtype.

“Kung meron man sa inyong magandang loob na magiging donor ng asawa ko, please lang po. He doesn’t deserve this,” Gemma said, crying.

Azkals won over India

Philippine Azkals came back strong to give former champion India a 2-0 defeat in their game at the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup.

After a tough loss to the Mighty North Koreans, Philippine Azkals showed better ball handling against India, Phil Younghusband scored both side of the half-time, giving 2-0 win over India both goals were assisted by his elder brother James Younghusband.

The Azkals took control of the India match in the 10th minute, Jason Sabio made a long throw in to James Younghusband,who flicked the ball towards his brother Phil,

Phil then turns around and hit the shot giving Azkals 1-0 advantage over the Blue Tigers. In the second half phil team up with is brother James for another goal.

The Philippines is now tied with Tajikistan in the Group B standings with 3 points each. North Korea leads the group with 6 points following their 2-0 drubbing of Tajikistan.

Psychiatric test for the Azkals

Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman challenged the two players from the Philippine national football team to see a psychologist or a psychiatrist after they accused of sexual harassment. Soliman also suggested Azkals to take psychological assessment, and cultural oriention about the Philippines.

”It really is no joke when you’re idolized by many, and you misbehave” Soliman added

Cristy Ramos claimed that the players of Azkals (Lexton Moy, and Angel Guirado) disrespected her while she was conducting a pre-match check regarding the game against Malaysia last week.

In the meantime Malacañang refuse to get involved with the sexual harassment issue.

Accoring to Deputy Presidential Spokesperosn Abigail Valte “It’s up to the (PFF) Philippine Football Federation to decide on how Moy and Guirado will be sactioned.”

Federation’s Diciplinary Committee is already conducting an investigation regarding the issue. PFF president Mariano Araneta said.

Former Lingayen Pangasinan Vice-Mayor and his wife killed in Manila

Former Lingayen Pangasinan Vice-Mayor Ramon Arcinue and his wife Zorahyda was shot and killed by an unknown gunman in Sampaloc, Manila late night Wednesday.They were shot in front of their son’s apartment in Maceda Street Manila around 11pm.

Before the incident happened, Ramon Arcinue was first heard having a quarrel with the Gunman.

The Arcinues had just arrived from a graduation dinner when the incident occurred. Their son JC,will graduate this march. The Police said

According to some residents who witnessed the crime, the gunman was on his bare foot when he fled the scene and boarded a bus along España Boulevard.

Ramon and his wife were rushed to the UST Hospital but died while being treated, they both sustained gunshot wounds to the head.

Before this incident two gunmen also attempted to kill the Arcinues on March 4, 2011 in Lingayen. The Police suspect politics is behind the killing.

Male helper commits suicide by dringking silver cleaner

Jonar Lorenzo a vegetables stand helper found dead in his apartment in Caloocan City on Tuesday Evening.

Accordign to the Police the helper (21-year old) committed suicide by drinking a bottle of silver cleaner. The victim left several suicide notes that addresses to his Employer Ligaya Panganiban, Lorenzo expressed his ill feelings towards his employer.

But Ligaya Panganiban believed that Lorenzo was already suffering from mental illness due to family related problems. “Matagal nang may problema sa pamilya yan,” she said.

Lorenzo’s Girlfriend Mary Anne Managaytay was shocked when she heard the news. According to Managaytay Lorenzo handed her a letter past 9p.m on Tuesday. She did not know that it was her boyfriend’s suicide letter.

“Sabi niya, hihintayin kita sa bahay namin, alam mo naman kung saan ako nakatira,” Managaytay said.
