A moderately strong earthquake hits Bicol region, Philippines at 7:06 a.m on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reports. The epicenter of the earthquake was in three kilometers north of Masbate.
Quake was felt at intensity 5 to 6 in Masbate City, Intensity 4 in Sorsogon City, Intensity 2 in Legaspi City and intensity 3 in Roxas city. There were no reports of casualties, but the quake caused cracks in the walls of some buildings.
According to Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum a magnitude 3.5 aftershock also occured in Masbate seven minutes later. Also an Aftershock of intensity 2 occurred in Roxas City.
Solidum said it was only coincidental that there have been recent earthquakes happening close to each other. “The other quakes did not cause the movement of other faults”.
