In the recently concluded Presidential Forum of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines, President Aquino was once again asked by the media about his final stand regarding Former President Marcos’ burial and state honors.
President Aquino finally answered the issue and stated that he is not in favor of giving military honors or even give a state burial in the Heroes Memorial (Libingan ng mga Bayani).
“We have so many victims of the Martial Law years. It would be really, I think, the height of injustice to render any honor to the person who was the direct mastermind of all their suffering.” said Aquino
Aquino also gave his apologies to Vice President Jejomar Binay for not following the VP’s recommendations to give military honors to Marcos but to be laid to rest in Ilocos Norte.
However the administration says that the Marcos family is still free to choose any location where they want to bury the late President but he will never be given state honors. The Aquino administration further added that the Marcos family has to wait for the next administration who can be in favor of the burial and military honors of the late President Marcos.
