15M in RP take part in Earth Hour

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines has again showed its commitment to the environment with the participation of some 15 million Filipinos in the observance of “Earth Hour” on Saturday.

“More than 1,000 cities and municipalities in the Philippines have taken part in Earth Hour, the largest number of any country or territory participating in Earth Hour this year,” organizers said in the Earth Hour 2010 official blog (http://earthhourblog.posterous.com/?page=3).

The organizers said the “amazing show” of support for Earth Hour was complemented by some of the country’s landmarks switching off their lights, such as Manila Cathedral, Fort Bonifacio and Global City, Rizal Monument and El Nido Limestone Cliffs.

Other landmarks, such as the Quezon Memorial Circle and Manila City Hall clock tower, were darkened for an hour.
