Quezon bishop slams entry of gaming firm

LUCENA CITY–Quezon Catholic Bishop Emilio Marquez on Tuesday assailed the looming province-wide operation of an online gaming firm associated with known gambler Charlie “Atong” Ang.

“I call on all town officials who have already issued business permits to MVGC (Meridien Vista Gaming Corp.) to immediately revoke the license. This gambling company must not be allowed to establish foothold in any part of the province,” Marquez said in an interview.

“What we now have in our midst are widespread illegal logging, illegal quarrying, proliferation of illegal drugs and now, this virtual gambling,” the bishop said. “All of these should be stopped by concerned government agencies with the active participation of an enlightened citizenry.”
