CHR welcomes human rights charges vs Chavit

Chairwoman Leila M. de Lima welcomes the filing of charges of human rights violation against Deputy National Security Adviser Luis “Chavit” Singson by Ms. Rachel “Che” Tiongson before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

De Lima issued the statement Tuesday morning even on sick bay and promised the commission “will look into Tiongson’s allegations and the reliefs sought. It will also determine whether to assign the case to our National Capital Region (NCR) office or our Women’s Human Rights Center (WHRC).”

She said “women’s rights are human rights, and that’s why we have WHRC.”

De Lima stressed the complaint would be a landmark of sorts since both the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Law and the Magna Carta of Women were passed recently and signed by President Arroyo.
