MANILA, Philippines – Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the country’s largest power distribution firm, reported an improvement in its energy sales in the first seven months of the year.
Meralco president Jose de Jesus told reporters that sales in gigawatthours (gwh) grew 0.1 percent to 15,396 gwh as of end-July 2009, recovering from a – 0.5 percent contraction in the same period last year.
“The decline in the sales volume has been decelerating. While there were forecasts of flat sales growth this year, there were signs hopefully that sales will eventually improve. We see improvement in the decline of sales volume one percentage point every month,” he said.
