Clampdown on telecom firms continues

New billing scheme looms.

MANILA, Philippines – Amid the continuing clamor from the public for greater regulation of mobile phone services, the National Telecommunications Commission is set to mandate a sharp reduction in the billing unit of voice calls “to protect and promote the interests of subscribers and end-users.”

The proposed memorandum circular orders wireless operators to charge clients’ voice calls for every three seconds of usage, instead of the present practice of billing on a per-minute basis.
