‘Feria’ batters Visayas

CEBU CITY – At least 1,000 passengers and 60 sea vessels were stranded in the different ports of Cebu and nearby provinces as Tropical Storm Feria continued to gain strength while passing through Eastern Visayas.

Classes were suspended and local governments ordered the immediate evacuation of families living in areas prone to landslide and flashfloods as storm signal number 1 was raised in the entire Cebu province and the nearby provinces of Samar, Leyte, and Biliran as of noon today.

Coast Guard Commander Anelito Gabisan said at least 60 motorized bancas and small sea vessels, including fast crafts going to Leyte and Bohol, were grounded at noon today, leaving nearly 1,000 passengers stranded in various ports around the region.
