No stopping spread of swine flu–DoH

Outbreak confirmed at farming village in N. Ecija.

MANILA, Philippines—A remote farming village that seldom sees outsiders became the first area in the Philippines to have a confirmed community outbreak of the swine flu virus on Sunday, even as officials warned the spread of the virus was inevitable.

Authorities were still trying to find out how the virus—which first erupted in Mexico on March 17 and later hit industrialized countries—squirmed its way into an isolated village in Nueva Ecija province, where people travel over rugged roads by motorcycles, pedicabs and “kuliglig,” a farm tractor used for transporting rice harvests.
