PNP ready vs rally on Charter change

The Philippine National Police (PNP) have set up checkpoints in all entry points to Metro Manila and readied more than 5,000 anti-riot policemen for deployment, both as security measures for the massive protest action slated today in Makati City by those who oppose the planned amendment of the 1987 Constitution.

Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina, PNP spokesman, said policemen manning what he called control points in the nearby provinces in Metro Manila were instructed to look for loose firearms and explosive device as well as denying entry on suspicious-looking persons who may sabotage the rally at the corner of Paseo de Roxas and Ayala Avenue this afternoon.
