US manufacturer cuts jobs in its Baguio facility

BAGUIO, Philippines – A US manufacturer of precision instruments has laid off 293 of its 1,000 employees in a northern Philippine export processing zone due to the global economic slump, officials said Tuesday.

It was the first time that Moog Controls Corp., a branch of New Aurora, New York-based Moog Inc., has laid off workers at its factory in the mountain resort city of Baguio since it opened 25 years ago, said labor department regional director Sixto Rodriguez.
