The sweet pride of mom

Listening to melodic adlib or palabok from a song is as satisfying as eating a distinctly mouth-whetting ‘palabok’ offered at Mommy’s Malabon Pride, a food entity that has preserved the original tradition of making one of the best native delicacies in town: Dolor’s Kakanin.

“Sir, merienda muna kayo while waiting for the owner,” beamed one waiter as he surprisingly served us palabok (rice noodles with shrimp-based sauce topped with sliced boiled eggs, chicharon crumbs, and vegetables), and puto bagets (petite, tender, flour-based sweet steamed rice cakes). While this was a veritable meal in itself already, the sense of hospitality was more intriguing.
