Since it opened in 2000, La Cocina de Tita Moning has acquired a reputation as offering one of the finest dining experiences in Manila. Suzette Montinola opened the restaurant as a way of honoring her grandmother, Ramona Legarda a.k.a. Tita Moning, who had a reputation as the perfect party hostess during the 1950s and 60s. An invitation to dine at her table back then was not to be turned down!
According to Suzette, her grandmother was actually her grandfather, Don Alejandro Legarda’s second wife. At the start, Doña Ramona was a concerned as to how she will be received by her new in-laws. So she began pouring time and energy in learning how to cook the dishes that her husband and her family loved. Eventually she won not only her in-laws approval, but gained a reputation with many in Manila’s high society at that time as being an excellent cook.
