A bohemian rhapsodizes on hardwood

When we were told by my potter friend Lanelle Abueva to go and visit Benji Reyes, an Antipolo resident artist and a devotee like her, because ‘magaling yan’, she didn’t warn us three hours wouldn’t be enough for a visit.

Or that beyond being magaling, Benji was an individual who lived a life of an old soul, and espoused principles so basic they may have already been forgotten. Indeed, over and above being magaling, we found Benji – sculptor, furniture designer, home builder, teacher, environmentalist, bohemian – a pioneer fighting a battle with such passion and certitude that no one could possibly think wouldn’t come to pass.
