Duterte gives up control of Davao City cops

DAVAO CITY—Embattled Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Tuesday gave up control of Davao City’s police forces and resigned from the National Police Commission (Napolcom), amid charges from an international watchdog linking the local police to death squad assassinations.

Duterte’s resignation coincided with a public inquiry by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) into the killings of more than 800 civilians allegedly by a shadowy group of assassins called the Davao Death Squad (DDS).
