Guling-Guling in Abel country

Lenten rituals and traditions vary all over the globe, some more famous than others. These are woven into the fabric of the country’s cultural heritage.

In anticipation of Lent, we took the long trip to Ilocos Norte, opting for the fastest way to get there—via Cebu Pacific to the Laoag International Airport.

Our group of seven was invited by Ilocos Norte Gov. Michael Marcos Keon to witness the annual Guling-Guling Festival, a centuries-old parade mounted on the eve of Ash Wednesday.
