SEC chairman defends self, Martinez

The embattled chief of the country’s corporate regulator defended an equally beleaguered subordinate who is accused of taking kickbacks from the owner of a failed investment house.

Chairman Fe Barin of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday appealed to the public not to immediately cast judgments against Commissioner Jesus Enrique Martinez, who was named by two former executives of the now bankrupt Legacy group as the protector of the fallen business conglomerate owned by Celso de los Angeles.
