Aguilar, Hanopol, Unite sue execs over royalties

MANILA, Philippines – Music icons Freddie Aguilar, Mike Hanopol, and Charo Unite on Tuesday filed several counts of estafa charges against publishing heavyweight Bayanihan Music Inc. (BAMI) for allegedly failing to pay their royalties for over 10 years.

Charged before the Quezon City Prosecutor Office were BAMI executives Steven Tan, Antonio Ocampo, Perfecto Tan, Constancia Paz, and Regina Balajadia.

The complainants took their oath before first assistant city prosecutor Meynard M. Bautista Jr. The cases will be raffled off to assistant investigators for preliminary investigation.

Rod Domingo Jr., counsel of the complainants, said they filed the criminal charges because the BAMI executives failed to remit 50 percent of royalties due to the composers.
