The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index added 0.51% or 9.60 points to close at 1,891.04, while the all-share index gained 0.41% or 5.09 points to end at 1,223.77. A total of 491 million shares worth P4.56 billion were traded. Foreign buyers exceeded selling by P3.33 billion.
Decliners led advancers 43 to 32, while 43 shares did not move.
“Domestically, there was significant news [that could have pushed up the market] but if you look globally, [the US government] is already making efforts to improve the health of its banks,” George Ching of CitisecOnline.com said.
