This addiction called Facebook

MANILA, Philippines—As I now return to the grind of taking care of things at home, which of course includes my trips to the grocery store, the bank, and the mall (plus a stop at a favorite smoothie bar), I find myself drawn—nay, sucked into a portal through which very few people escape … a distraction-turned-occupation that now takes up a lot of my time.

It’s called Facebook.

I can’t remember exactly when or how I found myself here … where tagging and poking are commonplace … where applications abound like flowers in a field (or weeds on a lawn, depending on how you look at it). Where you can brush up on your anagrams, geography, spelling, Texas Hold ’Em Poker, or Scrabble (for this particular application I am most grateful)… play Mob Wars, take care of virtual gardens, and even fight global warming … have a 3D Labrador Retriever puppy to take care of everyday … or just upload pictures and videos, write notes and messages, and keep connected with the rest of the world.
