Interagency group destroys illegal structures in Manila Bay

Authorities from the Environment department, Coast Guard, Navy, Philippine National Police-Maritime Police, Metro Manila Development Authority and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources demolished 85 illegal saprahan and tahongan structures in the waters off Cavite province and Parañaque and Las Piñas cities.

A saprahan is a fixed fish trap usually measuring 15 meters x 15 meters, or an area covering 225 square meters, while a tahongan occupies an area ranging from 3 meters x 3 meters to 20 meters x 20 meters consisting of bamboo stakes where mussels are cultured.
