Enrile now open to Charter change

But other senators hit move by House.

MANILA, Philippines—Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Wednesday said the Senate was prepared to consider moves in the House of Representatives to amend the economic provisions of the Constitution and that he was keeping an “open mind” on other possible changes.

Senators Francis Pangilinan, Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero said the attempt in the House to institute Charter change (Cha-cha) through a constituent assembly was “flawed” and could lead to the extension of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s term, which ends next year.
