A 14-year-old coed of a little-known Chinese school in Pangasinan has continued her reign as the country’s top “sudoku master,” winning the Sudoku Grand Master title at the 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge at the SM City North EDSA Annex last Saturday.
Sarah Jane Cua, reigning Asia-Pacific sudoku champion after winning Brand’s 1st Asia-Pacific Sudoku Challenge in Singapore last year, is a sophomore at the Pangasinan Universal Institute.
She was the youngest contestant in her division.
She took home a cash prize of P60,000, a trophy and gifts.
Despite her earlier achievements, Cua confessed she still got nervous, especially during the championship round.
The national sudoku tournament, organized by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines, had four rounds after which the top five scorers enter a fifth or championship round.
