It can be yours if the price is right

Beauty, as the Spring/Summer 2009 collection of Tod’s will show, has a price. The lizard skin heels are tagged P40,000 (or HK$5,000). The silver evening clutch inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow, Tod’s newest style ambassador, is worth around P60,000. The python miniature tote is pegged up there at P150,000-P200,000. It’s less a question of value — these are, after all, heirloom pieces — but rather whether the local market can afford to spend so much, even on exquisitely crafted bits of nylon, crocodile, python, calfskin, patent leather, and most unusually, scuba neoprene.

Tod’s Hong Kong Ltd. PR Associate Hannah Ng, who brought in the samples from Hong Kong for the recent press viewing, said that price points are a major consideration when stocking up on merchandise for a particular market. Some items are simply not moveable because the locals would find the price too dear, as in the case of the above-mentioned items, and the Tod’s jewelry collection.
