Arroyo okays programs on food output

Executive Order 776, signed by Mrs. Arroyo on Jan. 16, mandated that a portion of dormant government lands in urban areas be converted to revenue- and food-generation projects such as vegetable gardens and backyard fisheries to provide livelihood and employment opportunities for the poor.

The initiative is part of the P300-billion economic stimulus plan, which includes the comprehensive livelihood and emergency employment program or CLEEP, which in turn includes Backyard food production programs like Gulayan ng Masa and the Integrated Services for Livelihood Advancement for subsistence fisherfolk.
