US President Barack Obama is on the third day of his historic presidency but his is an enviable job, what with all the problems his predecessor left in practically all realms of governance. The US economy is not only in the doldrums but even in total disarray and the country is spreading itself too thinly in two wars abroad courtesy of the cowboy mentality of former president and now private citizen.
This columnist salutes Obama’s bravery to face up to all the serious problems his country is grappling with but of which he had nothing to do. Still, he tasked himself to address these squarely during his presidency. What a display of bravery from a man whose roots as an African-American were never imagined to rise to political prominence in the US, a country peopled predominantly with light-skinned ones.
