Anchorage, 2 January 2009 – The Philippines joined several countries at the Alaska Statehood Gala held on 2 January at the new Dena’ina Center in downtown Anchorage as part of the statewide activities organized by the Office of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in celebration of the 50th anniversary marking Alaska’s admission into the Union.
Some 2000 people attended the event, including prominent leaders and personalities in Alaska as well as representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps.
“We welcome these representatives with our best Alaska hospitality. We are pleased with their recognition of the importance of our 50th anniversary,” Governor Palin said. “It is a special honor to showcase our state to this high-profile international group,” she added
