Street crimes dip in 2008

MAMANG PULIS — PNP chief Director General Jesus  A. Verzosa yesterday said street crimes dropped significantly in 2008 with the Philippine National Police attaining increased efficiency rating.    Verzosa said the enhanced police visibility as well as better participation from local government units and the community were essential in the improved anti-criminality campaign of the police last year.
Citing records from the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) headed by Director Raul M. Bacalzo, Verzosa said there were 4,857 reported street crime incidents for 2008 which is less than 6.7% compared to the 5,206 incidents reported in 2007.
