Rise in pregnancy-related deaths must end — Lagman

THE negative report that at least 11 Filipino women die every day due to pregnancy-related complications is already an eye opener for the government to have a comprehensive reproductive health program.
This is according to Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman as he urged his colleagues to immediately enact the Reproductive Health Bill that is still pending in the House of Representatives.
The controversial HB 5042, which was strongly opposed by Church leaders, aimed at improving the family planning, responsible parenthood and population control program, Lagman said.
Lagman, being the principal proponent of the bill, underscored the need to pass this measure since the Philippines is among the worst performing countries in improving maternal health.
