Lacson urges Puno to run for President

fter calling on religious leaders to save the country from corruption and moral decadence, Chief Justice Reynato Puno should now “rise to the challenge” and run for President next year.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson, a presidential aspirant himself, made the call Thursday, declaring he was willing to sacrifice his political ambitions and fully support Puno if he chooses to enter the political ring.

Puno’s chief of staff indicated the chief magistrate wasn’t interested.

“The Chief Justice has time and again said that he is not interested in politics and would rather remain in the judiciary, where he continues to make great strides,” lawyer Midas Marquez said.

Puno’s term as a Supreme Court justice will expire in May 2010, the same month the presidential elections are due to be held.
