Provincial governor injured in communist rebel ambush: police

A provincial governor and one of her bodyguards were wounded in the central Philippines on Sunday when communist guerrillas ambushed their convoy using improvised explosives, police said.

Elisa Kho, the governor of Masbate province, suffered facial injuries from a glass shard of her vehicle’s windshield that was shattered by shrapnel, according to a police report.

One of the official’s bodyguards were also injured in the blasts, it said, adding that at least two improvised explosive devices were set off on the side of the road.
