17-year-old track star tops ‘Pinoy Sports Idol’

A 17-year-old athletics champion from Iloilo topped the seventh season of the weekly sports reality television show “Pinoy Sports Idols” on NBN 4.

Dalyn Carmen, a native of San Dionisio, received an average of 93 percent from televiewers’ text votes and judges’ score sheets to romp off with the coveted ultimate sports idol honors.

“I wish that young people like me would become sports-minded so they would not fall into a life of vices. One needs discipline to become the best in her chosen athletic endeavor, like what I have achieved,” said Carmen in Filipino. She is only on her second year of serious training in track events.

The gold medalist in last year’s Palarong Pambansa edged amateur boxer Noel Pecking of Baguio City and tae kwon do jin Sharmaine Maquilan of Tagum City for the sports idol title.
