MANILA, Philippines – It’s already the holiday rush can be felt in shopping malls and flea markets that dot the cities during the Christmas season. For overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families, distance can pose a challenge to the tradition of gift-giving.
“The holidays resonate with Filipinos because family togetherness, sharing and food take center stage. But for OFWs and their families, holiday sharing becomes more challenging because of distance,” said Western Union marketing director Vanessa Bicomong. She explained the act of gift-giving has been redefined with OFWs opting to send cash gifts to their loved ones which they can use to buy their “perfect gift”.
