The Commission on Elections (Comelec) expressed confidence yesterday that despite a very low turnout of registrants last Tuesday, Dec. 2, it will be able to enlist more than 2.5 million new voters for the May 10, 2010 elections when the registration period ends on Dec. 15.

The Comelec, led by Chairman Jose A.R. Melo, said it expects the turnout of registrants to pick up as the youth becomes more aware of the big role it will be playing in the first fully automated major political exercise in the country.
